So during my normal gameplay, I stumbled across the item duplication glitch that comes from opening a chest in the mines with a full inventory. While this seems to be a minor exploit, since those rewards take up a finite amount of space in your inventory, I wondered just how exploitable it can get, and started a new file to test these chests.
Turns out, it is very exploitable.
The Golden Pumpkin from the Halloween event differs from the swords, boots, etc, from the mine chests because it is stackable. And this item duplication glitch behaves very weirdly with stackable items. Instead of being able to just ‘dump’ a small amount on the ground, the game will actually multiply exponentially the stack when you finally collect them. In my example, I dumped roughly 10 Golden Pumpkins on the ground and when I cleared a spot my inventory I got 512 Golden Pumpkins back. Clearing another spot gave me 512 more.
And these multiple pumpkins behave weirdly if you mess about when them. Try to stack them and you will lose pumpkins overall. In the end, I left the event with 502 Golden Pumpkins, for a total of 1.255 million gold.
I think it’s safe to say that this needs to be patched.
