White Screen Fix Workaround – Nier Automata

Hey Guys and Gals.

Since there are still many players experiencing the “White Screen Of Death” on Nvidia cards, here’s another attempt on working around the issues. I CAN NOT guarantee it will work for you, since all other fixes worked for some and for others not so much, but here goes.

First: Update Graphics Divers to newest available roll outs

Second: Use GeForce Experience’s optimization feature

Third: Disable AA and FXAA via the nVidia system settings, set it to max performance and vSync to adaptive

Fourth: Install FAR

Since I am probably not allowed to link it, just google the newest version of FAR and install it over your Nier installation. This boosts performance and makes it look less weird.

Fith: Give your graphics card a recovery delay

This is done by editing a registration entry, so do it on your own risk!

1. open regedit.exe
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\GraphicsDrivers –> open it up
3. right click and create a new QWORD (64Bit), name it “TdrDelay”
4. double click the new entry and change the setting to 4000

Sixth: Automate the affinity setting via bat

Create a new txt document in your Nier install directory, enter the following code

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 5 /D “PATH TO YOUR INSTALLATION DIRECTORY” NieRAutomata.exe

Here’s a quick guide on how to use the /affinity x command:

• 5 for most builds with 4 and less cores
• 15 for builds with 6 cores
• 55 for builds with 8 cores

I am using 5 as it is the most compatible across the board of players using this fix 🙂

You will then use this shortcut (you can link it to the desktop and give it a new icon) to run the game.

For me this has proven to work, as none of the other fixes worked solid on their own but only made it a little better. So I dug around and tried combining some of the most potent fixes I’ve found, and voila, jag free, freezes are gone for now. Played about 2 Hours flawlessly without stuttering.

If you’d be so kind to test this on your own machines and give a quick feedback here on what you guys experienced with this combo, it would probably help a lot of people around here. I’ll check in periodically to chime in how my gamestate progresses and if the freezes will come back.
