Struggling with XCOM2’s Avatar Project

Hi guys I think I’m about to lose the game and I don’t really understand how I’m supposed to avoid it. I feel like I’m only about 10 missions in and my Avatar project bar is already full and all of the Counter Missions are outside of my current network. So far my experience with the game has been:

DON’T FORGET TO COLLECT THOSE RESOURCES
WARNING ALL XCOM STAFF HAVE STUBBED TOES AND CANNOT MAKE A FULL SQUAD
SCANNING FOR RESOURCES
WARNING AVATAR PROJECT PROGRESS
WARNING REBELS UNDER ATTACK
THIS AREA STILL NEEDS TO BE SCANNED ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO LEAVE
RESOURCES TO BE COLLECTED
AVATAR PROGRESS ETC

I’m into June now and my headquarters are based in South Africa, yet all of the counter missions require me to contact at least 2 further regions (currently made contact with South Africa and West Europe) and I simply don’t think I’ll have enough days to make contact before the game is simply over.

It’s really irritating as I’ve only just finished the first Black Site mission and the second I decreased it be 1 point, a couple days later it increased by 2 and now I have a big scary timer up.

What can I do in this current situation? Not gonna lie but this new world interface isn’t very user friendly and I wish it would stop telling me to collect resources when I am quite obviously under a lot of pressure time-wise.

Advice

The story missions reduce the avatar meter by a significant amount at certain objectives. Can’t go in too much without spoiling you, though.

Also, you should focus on guerrilla ops that counter avatar progresses, and establish contact at core regions as fast as possible. Build radio towers to reduce intel costs and get more supplies, unlock more areas to compensate for the supplies.

You can also ignore resource collection to do more important stuff, don’t be pressured to finish one scanning when the doomsday clock is ticking.

Having only two contacts by June is probably something to think about too.
