Power Armor Location Guide

Fallout 4 Power Armor

I will cover as many locations as I can as to where you can obtain pieces of power armor (And maybe X-01 if your lucky!)

Introduction

This is my first guide, and after spending some time searching for my own set X-01 armor, I came across many locations as manage to finish other power armor sets, so I thought I’d give it a shot and make a guide to help others finding their own set of awesome armor.

Types of Power Armor Found

There are currently 5 different types of power armor you can find. There is a best and worst armor and I’ll be going over that here. I’ll also list what their total Armor and Energy resistance for max level are.

Name: Raider Power Armor

Max Upgrade: 2 (Raider II)

Stats:

  • Armor: 620
  • Energy Resistance: 250

Description:

The weakest armor in the game, Raider armor is commonly found on raiders that have gotten ahold of a suit. This armor won’t generally spawn on suit spawns, but can sometimes happen. (I’ve had it happen to me once.)

Name: T-45 Power Armor

Max Upgrade: 6 (T-45F)

Stats:

  • Armor: 1100
  • Energy Resistance: 910

Description:

This is the first type of Power Armor you will most likely come across. Not the most amazing armor, but since there’s a lack of Fusion Cores early game you will probably have better armor by the time your ready to run around in Power Armor.

Name: T-51 Power Armor

Max Upgrade: 6 (T-51F)

Stats:

  • Armor: 1340
  • Energy Resistance: 1090

Description:

The T-51 is a pretty hard set to finish of early on, but is decent enough. You can start replacing the piece’s of T-45 with this as you get them.

Name: T-60 power Armor

Max Upgrade: 6 (T-60F)

Stats:

  • Armor: 1580
  • Energy Resistance: 1245

Description:

Once the Brotherhood arrives’s this set is easy to obtain. Either by joining them, or stalking them as they go and fight super mutants, the T-60 armor is the second best armor in the game, and probably the most customizable (Paint wise anyway.)

Name: X-01 Power Armor

Max Upgrade: 6 (Mk. VI)

Stats:

  • Armor: 1820
  • Energy Resistance: 1390

Description:

The best armor in the game, and also the rarest, the X-01 power armor will make you a walking tank. With very high armor and energy resistance (Especially if you take Prisim Shielding for the material mod slot), this armor makes you extremely hard to kill.

Requirements

As general you can visit these locations whenever you want, provided you have the required skills to get in if needed, but if your going to specifically look for X-01 then there’s a sort of level requirement you have to reach before it’ll start spawning.

Even though other people say different, I’m going to say the minimum level requirement for this is 30. While people have reported seeing X-01 pieces at slightly lower level’s, 30 seems to be the safer baseline. (On the topic of levels, it does seem it’s the case of the higher level you are, the better chance you have of X-01 armor to spawn.) Also to increase your X-01 spawning chance, having some good Luck helps (This helps rare item spawn rates)

Most of the other requirement’s I will state with each given location, but I do recommend having some decent weapons to protect yourselves and at least Expert Hacking and Lockpicking with a master either one (This will allow you to gain access to almost all the pieces and sets).

Locations: Pieces of Power Armor (Section 1)

The following locations have a suit that will spawn random pieces of power armor.

Note: While they generally spawn pieces, they still have a chance of spawning a full set.

Location: The Prydwen (Brotherhood of Steel Airship)

Requirements: Lockpicking (Master) or Hacking (Master)

Aboard the Prydwen and behind Proctor Teagen lies the X-01 Helmet, among other notable loot such as a Fatman. You will need either master hacking or lockpicking to gain access to the caged room.

Note: Thought I may mention this, the helm that spawns is an X-01 helm regardless of level.

Note 2: Some people may have some trouble stealing the helm. Here are two optional ways to steal the helm.

You can exit your power armor in his line of sight, you can hide behind the armor and steal just about anything in there safely, always save before you do it tho. people like wandering around on the ship” -Speedyy

You can grab the helmet with “E” button (needs to be holded down to carry stuff, not to take) and go to some place on prydwen deck where no one is walking around (like top deck just behind Teagon)” -Bad L_ck, Yo_’re F_cked

Location: Energy Turbine 18-F

Requirements: None

Up on the hill nearby there are two military APC’s and a crash plane of sorts. There’s a suit near the tail of the plane.

Location: Abandoned Shack (Installation K21-B)

Requirements: Radiation Protection (Power armor for example) and the ability to kill Synths

Almost directly north of the Crater of Atom is the Abandoned Shack with a floor hatch that leads to the installation.

Though the hatch is locked, the key is located within the shack. Once inside, travel down the to ground floor. Along the way there will be Synths who may or may not be hostile to you (In my case they wheren’t).

Note: Some people have reported of getting a full set of X-01 here. I’m unsure of the chance’s of this but you have a high chance to get pieces of X-01 at least.

Location: National Guard Training Yard

Requirements: Lockpicking (Expert/Master) and Hacking (?)

There are two suit spawns here. First is the easiest, a shipping container behind the armory has a Expert Lock on it with armor behind it.

The second is within the armory itself. But to open the armory you need to go inside the major building onsite. (Note: If you have master lockpicking you can just pick the door.)

Once inside, there’s a terminal on the wall which can be hacked or accessed using the password found inside the other building.

Head’s up on your way out of the armory though, upon exiting the building a Sentry Bot will be triggered to attack you.

Location: Finch Farm

Requirements: None

A little west of Finch’s Farm, along the road, there’s a military transport. Inside the green truck is a suit.

Location: Revere Satellite Array

Requirements: None

This place is full of super mutants. After clearing them out, you can climb one of the satellites and find a suit of armor sitting in one of the satellite dishes.

Location: Goodneighbor (Big Dig Quest)

Requirements: None

During the questline of Big Dig which starts through Bobbi No Nose in Goodneighbor, you can access a side room which has a suit of power armor in it (As well as a king Miralurk which can be a legendary so watch out for that).

Note: Make sure you break down the wall during the quest, cause if left up and you finish the quest, there is no way to break it down.

Location: Crashed Vertibird (West of Murkwater Construction Site)

Requirements: None

Just west of Murkwater Construction Site is a crashed Vertibird with a set of power armor standing nearby. There maybe a Mr. Gusty guarding the site though, but he’s easy to take care of. Note: Be careful around Murkwater, the past few times I’ve gone there, a Queen Miralurk has been roaming about.

Location: Military Checkpoint (North West of Jamacia Plain)

Requirements: None

Along the road northwest of the Jamacia plain is a military checkpoint with a suit situated there.

Location: Military Checkpoint (North West of Mass Pike Interchange)

Requirements: None

A little northwest of the Mass Pike Interchange is a military checkpoint which has a suit of armor beside the APC on the side of the road.

Location: Military Checkpoint (South of Natick Banks)

Requirements: None

This checkpoint is pretty straight forward. You can follow the road south out of Natick Banks and there will be a checkpoint at the end of it. The Armor is beside the APC.

Location: Dock Checkpoint (North West of Nahant Wharf)

Requirements: Advanced Lockpicking.

This one can be a little tricky to find. Below is the location from the map screen.

After arriving (And clearing out the area if need be) try and find the gap between the containers as shown below. To the right will be a container with a Suit locked behind an Advanced Lock Door.

Locations: Pieces of Power Armor (Section 2)

Location: Fiddler’s Green Trailer Estate

Requirements: Lockpicking (Novice/Master)

Upon first arrival, this area maybe infested with ghouls, so you may want to clear them out. After handling the ghouls you can either go grab the Fiddler’s Green Trailer Estate Key from the main building inside a Novice Lockpicking safe, or go straight to the Trailer containing the power armor.

If you choose to skip the key, you will be required to Master lockpick the door.

Note: The front area of the trailer has a few mines laying about.

Location: Checkpoint Building (North of Fort Strong)

Requirements: None

Just north of Fort Strong, across the bridge is a small checkpoint with a building. Inside is a suit of armor.

Location: Barge (North East of North Old Church)

Requirements: Hacking (Novice)

On a half sunk barge, northeast of the North Old Chuch there is a suit of armor sitting in a cage surrounded by a few APCs.

Location: Military Checkpoint (North West of Wattz Consumer Electronics)

Requirements: Hacking (Advanced)

There is a suit sitting inside a cage with Advanced hacking requirements.

Location: South of Drumlin Diner

Requirements: Hacking (Advanced)

South of the Drumlin Diner, along the railroad there will be a suit of Power Armor in a cage. The terminal is inside a carriage near it and requires Advanced Hacking.

Location: East of Tenpines Bluff

Requirements: Hacking (Advanced)

A little West of the Tenpines Bluff Settlement there is a set of railroad carriages with a Suit of Armor sitting in a cage. The Terminal requires advanced hacking and is inside a carriage nearby.

Location: Crashed Vertibird (North West of USAF Satellite Station Olivia)

Requirements: None

At the crashed Vertibird site, northwest of Satellite Station Olivia, there is a suit of armor on the north side of the crash.

Location: Crashed Vertibird (In the lake east of Starlight Drive In)

Requirements: None

This suit is underwater next to a crashed vertibird in a lake.

You won’t see the power armor until your fully underwater.

Location: Federal Ration Stockpile

Requirements: None

Just outside the south end of the stockpile, there’s a suit of armor on a trailer.

Location: Military Checkpoint (South fo Fort Hagen)

Requirements: None

Inside the building with a line of Power Armor crafting stations you will find a suit sitting at one.

Location: South Cave (East of Crater of Atom)

Requirements: Radiation Protection

Inside the southern cave in the glow lies a suit of power armor (Due to the distress call that can lead you here, it may always be a suit of raider armor)

Locations: Full sets Power Armor

The following locations have a very good chance of spawning a full set of power armor.

Location: South Boston Military Checkpoint

Requirements: Hacking (Expert)

When you arrive there maybe some gunner’s around, so you might wanna clear them out before going for the armor. On the outside of the main building lies a cage with a Terminal for the door which requires Expert hacking to access.

Location: 35 Court Tower (West of Custom House Tower)

Requirements: The ability to kill two strong Robots

Note: This location has a very high chance of spawning X-01 armor, so try to avoid until 30+ if you want a set.

This location is just west of the Custom House Tower. It can be easily missed so I’ll explain below.

Fast travel to Custom House Tower (Or discover it then fast travel) Then head a little west.

You should quickly come across a teal building as shown below.

Head around to the left side to get inside.

Upon entering the building, head for the elevator to the left (If you choose to explore a little beware of the laser tripwire behind the desk. It will activate the protectron and ceiling turrets.)

Once on the next floor head up to the open area where you will find 3 seal doors (Left, right and center). When you approach the center door, alarms will go off and an Assaultron and Sentry will emerge from the two side doors (In my case the assaultron was legendary so be careful of that).

Once defeated, hit the red buttons in the room’s they robots where in to gain access to the power armor. (In my case, this was a full set of X-01 MK.3 armor.)

Note: This set of armor is HIGHLY prone to being effected by the armor bug in the game. Even if the armor looks like a different set, get in it to be 100% sure it’s not X-01.

Other ways to obtain Power Armor

There are a few Vendors within Fallout 4 that will sell you pieces of Power Armor (One in particular has a chance of stocking X-01 power armor!)

Vendor: Proctor Teagan

Location: On the Prydwen

He will mainly sell different variants of T-60 Power Armor.

Vendor: Rowdy

Location: Atom Cat’s garage

She will sell any kind of Power Armor, as well as the Atom Cat’s Custom Paint Job (Only available for T-60 Power Armor). She will sell the paint after you complete the Miscellaneous Quest they give you.

Conclusion

I know of a few other locations, though I wish to obtain screenshots before putting them in the guide.

If you know of any other location’s on where suits of power armor can be found, please list them in the comments and I will add them to the guide eventually.

Known Bug

It is possible that sometimes armor will look like one set but be an entirely different set. See below.

Thanks

I’d like to give thanks to all of you who have helped me with the guide, giving me extra locations that I’ve never been to (or completely forgot about) and giving me some constructive criticism on how to make the guide better.
